Arliene had a big heart. Her love for God and care of others manifested into thousands of service hours for family, friends and community: Camp Fire leader, Daffodil Festival, Tall Ships, Grace Community Church neighborhood outreach programs including Fern Hill Back to School Backpacks and Vacation Bible School. For many years she coordinated the Care Net clothing department. One of her proudest team efforts was providing K9 oxygen masks to the Tacoma Fire Department during her time with West End Neighborhood Council. Servanthood was in her DNA - possibly Pierce County's most generous gifter of time.  And, she often enlisted others in the adventure. Her life mantra, "The more the merrier."

Born in Butte, MT and daughter of Raymond and Gladys (Shanks) Chatelle, Arliene moved to the Puget Sound at age 5; lived in Tacoma 80 years, 51 of which were at the same address. After graduating Lincoln High in 1955, she worked for "Ma Bell" telephone company and enjoyed all things Ricky Nelson. She loved her 1958 Dodge Coronet and fat-fender Bel Air convertible.  Over the years Arliene kept in touch with high school friends, the "Lincoln Chix", meeting monthly for lunch. Their long-time commitment was featured as a Tacoma News Tribune personal interest story.

Arliene was a cautious decision maker but knew a good gift when presented to her. She met Chuck Jenkins at a dance in January 1961, said "Yes" in July and married in November. Three babies in five years, Tracie, Mike and Michelle kept her on her toes. She worked at Tacoma Boys, Wilson High School, Downing Elementary and owned a cleaning business. She stayed close with her only sibling, Carol Skeen-Gregory and family, and greatly enjoyed her last four years at Merrill Gardens Senior Community. Arliene was a wife of noble character, loving mother, trusted employee and loyal friend.

After losing Chuck in 1997 following 35 years of marriage, Arliene enjoyed serving at Young Life's Washington Family Ranch (aka The Big Muddy) and wrangled many of her church family to Central Oregon year after year for Work & Worship weekends. The Cannon Beach Conference Center was also a special place, attending annual women's retreats.

Loving all things law enforcement, Arliene attended numerous citizen police academies and never missed an opportunity to riddle officers with questions regarding recent police activity when volunteering at the Tacoma Police Department Sector 2 Substation. She liked old TV shows: Adam-12, Andy Griffith Show and The Rifleman.

Arliene loved her Seahawks and chose an "action green" cast complete with logo for a broken wrist. Her Pastor, Kim Anderson with wife Carol, also spent many a Saturday in her home eating pizza while watching Stanford football.

A lung and breast cancer survivor, she never complained but remained always optimistic and hopeful. Arliene's family nickname was Energizer Bunny, "She keeps going and going and going". "Takes a licking and keeps on ticking." Friends teased, "Here comes trouble," convinced "trouble" was Arliene's middle name.

Arliene loved the Lord and was a committed Christ-follower. Her legacy of community service continues through her children. Although she will be terribly missed, we are comforted knowing she has begun the happiest and best chapter of life - Heaven. "Welcome home, good and faithful servant."
