Alvin Lee Addison Sr passed away at 80 years old early Friday morning on September 27, 2024 at his home in Tacoma, Washington.

Son of Isaiah Addison and Gladys (Hicks) Addison, Alvin was born April 21, 1944 in Norfolk, Virginia where he graduated from Crestwood High School. Alvin went on to attend two years at Norfolk State College, (now known as Norfolk State University).  Alvin worked in many capacities serving shortly in the United States Army, excelled as top salesman while working for World Book Encyclopedia, finally securing his skill as professional waiter at high end restaurants where he met many famous people.

Alvin met and married Carolyn Ann Belk in 1964 also from Norfolk and soon started their family, oldest daughter Stephanie, middle child Jacquelyn and only son Alvin Jr. nicknamed Mooney.  Alvin searched for the right place to settle and raise his family moving from Virginia in the late 60's.  He took his family on a road trip calling home to Kansas City Missiouri, Sandiego California and settling in Tacoma, Washington.

Alvin loved classical music as everyone who walked by his home would hear the loud symphony orchestra playing from his record collection. Alvin was a man of class and would only have the Addison household listening to Christian Hymns, Classical music, or Smooth Jazz.  Alvin was also a book scholar where he valued the importance of knowledge in many areas. If you spent even a moment with Alvin you knew he was someone of high intellect with vast knowledge of the Bible, history, presidents, wars, economy, the stock market, classical musical conductors, the weather, space, food, medicine and the study of human behavior. Alvin was a wealth of knowledge, but struggled to find his path as the man he knew he was called to be.  Regardless of the many struggles holding him down, he always maintained his class, his strength, and his voice as a favored man of God, never for one moment taking his eyes off of The Lord and leading his family to a life of service to God.

After 3 long years of caring for his sick wife,  being her caregiver all hours of the day, taking her to dialysis appointments, cooking her meals and ensuring he met her every request,  in her final days of suffering, Alvin lost his wife and best friend on July 26, 2023.  Months later Alvin was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. Although he decided not to undergo treatment, Alvin went on to live a healthy life months after, but soon missed the life he had with his wife of 60 years. Alvin developed a closer relationship with his children, but soon became tired and with loss of appetite and missing his wife, his health quickly declined.

Alvin is preceded by his wife Carolyn A. Addison of Tacoma Washington, his father Isaiah Addison Sr., his mother Gladys (Hicks)Addison, his eldest brother Isaiah Jr.,  his sister Sarah Walker, all from Norfolk Virginia. He is survived by his brother Wilbur Addison and wife Aurella of Norfolk, his oldest daughter and husband Stephanie and Craig, his daughter Jacquelyn Greene and his son Alvin Jr. and wife Katrina.  Alvin is also survived by 4 grandchildren Ashley, Courtney, Kia  and Andrew, also 3 great grandchildren, Carter, Alexis, and Aaron.

Alvin was an amazing man, well respected, and a force to be reckoned with by all who knew him. Alvin will be greatly missed but never forgotten, as his voice will continue to speak to us who knew what he stood for. He would say be prepared, our world will be different very soon and Jesus will soon return. He would encourgage his family to stay ready! His legacy will live on in all that was learned by knowning Alvin, and his children and grandchildren will see many blessings in their lives as Alvin only wanted his family to be happy and blessed.
