Obituary

Alice June Higgins passed away peacefully in her home in Gig Harbor, WA, on May 24, 2026.

Alice was born on June 30, 1928, in her family home in Vancouver, WA, to parents Blanche and Merle Sampson. She was the fourth of five children. Alice attended Union High School, where she served as Senior Class President and met her future husband, Charles "Warren" Higgins. The couple married in 1946 after Warren returned from serving with the Marines in World War II. Together, they raised four children and later established HigOrig, a pottery business based in Lakewood, WA, following Warren's retirement from the U.S. Army.

Golf became Alice's lifelong passion. She was deeply involved with the Pacific Northwest Golf Association and served as the Women's Division Chairman in 1995. In her role as a course rater, she visited numerous golf courses across Washington State. Alice was an active member of Oakbrook Country Club, where she organized and often won tournaments while fostering lasting friendships. She also helped develop a junior golf program at Oakbrook, inspiring several of her children and grandchildren to take up the sport. Remarkably, Alice achieved eight holes-in-one during her lifetime, including three between the ages of 80 and 84.

Alice cherished time with her family and took great interest in the lives of her seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is remembered as a warm conversationalist who brought joy to those around her.

Alice was predeceased by her husband Warren Higgins; sons Ken and Bruce Higgins; son-in-law Michael Specht; sisters Hazel Williams, Jean Sampson, Marjorie Heinrich; and brother Leigh Sampson. She is survived by her son Bill Higgins (Norma), daughter Penny Specht, granddaughters Corey Epperson (Dana), Leena Mardis (Sam), Kelcie Higgins; grandsons Casey Specht, Jason Higgins (Hayley), Alex Higgins, and Charles Higgins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation, American Lung Association, or Common Spirit Hospice.
